You know who they are. It doesn’t take long to think of them - because they are obviously great.
How would you describe them? They are calm, thoughtful, patient, smart, and kind. They communicate clearly, and they take feedback well. They are passionate. Above all, they do their best work when they work with other great people.
The best people tend to have similar preferences with their work environment. They prefer working on big, challenging problems. They prefer autonomy. They want to work with other great people.
At Discern, we’re trying our best to apply all of the hard-won lessons we’ve learned in our careers (mainly from mistakes and failures). We care about small teams; small teams do big things. We would rather have a higher concentration of great people, even if it means having less.
We care about autonomy. We trust each other to be experts, to be candid, and to seek feedback when needed. Most importantly, we care about kindness, because a company is nothing more than the aggregate expression of its team members.
